The Guacamaya is a friendly,
Feel-at-Home Sanctuary.
The Guacamaya Lodge was constructed by Alice and Berni Iten. The sister and brother duo decided to leave Switzerland In January 1993 to start their adventure in Costa Rica.
The start was indeed an adventure, the whole property, where the Lodge is now, was just a jungle. The roads overall in this area were pretty bad. The property was not yet connected to electricity and phone lines.
But no matter all these difficulties, the Guacamaya Lodge opened on
April 15th 1994
